Newgate urges clergy to take advantage of government scrappage scheme

Independent car finance company, Newgate Finance, urges the clergy to take advantage of the benefits available to them through the UK Government’s car scrappage scheme as it announces details of its first sale through the scheme.

Nigel Williams, Managing Director of Newgate Finance, said:  “It makes economic and environmental sense to take advantage of the scheme.

Father Tim Hewitt, an Anglican Vicar for the Church in Wales, traded in his 13 year old Renault Megane for a brand new Peugeot 107 from Newgate Finance.

Newgate benefits from obtaining sizeable discounts on cars for specialist customers such as the clergy by negotiating volume discounts with motor manufacturers and then marketing special deals.  Newgate has also been able to help customers take advantage of the Government’s car scrappage scheme, thus gaining even better deals for customers.

As well as being a parish Priest, Fr Hewitt has a vocational role and needs to travel around the Swansea & Brecon diocese to meet with potential candidates for the ordained ministry.  He therefore needed a reliable and cost effective car and also one that is environmentally friendly.

The Peugeot 107 can do 65 miles to the gallon, only costs £35 a year for road tax and has cut Fr Hewitt’s fuel consumption by two thirds (compared to the Renault Megane).  It also comes with a three year warranty.

Commenting on his new car and the process of the sale, Fr Hewitt said:  “It had got to the point where we were spending a fortune on repairs for our Megane and were putting coolant into it every couple of hundred of miles just to keep it going.  However, when we spoke to Nigel at Newgate about getting a new car and found out we could benefit from the car scrappage scheme we decided it was the best way to go.

“We have bought cars through Newgate before and as usual we found the whole process completely straight forward and found Newgate to be very helpful.

“It was important to us that the car was economical to run as well as friendly to the environment.  With the Peugeot 107 we have achieved both those requirements and also got a very good deal too!”

Fr Hewitt’s wife also requires a car and therefore they have ordered a second car through Newgate Finance.

Nigel Williams commented:  “We are able to offer very competitive deals to our specialist customers and on this occasion Fr Hewitt was also able to benefit from the car scrappage scheme.

“Fr Hewitt was a previous customer so we know him well and was able to offer him a personal service tailored to his specific car needs.  We believe in staying with our clients throughout their car’s life to ensure we can be a constant source of advice to them.”
