160 mile cycle ride

Catholic priest Jonathan Moore's 160 mile sponsored cycle ride to the national shrine at Walsingham raised more than £22,000 - with a little push from car finance firm Newgate.

Monsignor Canon Moore, who has looked after the Glossop parishes of St. Mary Crowned and All Saints since 2002, raised the money for the Nottingham Diocesan Sick and Retired Priests' Fund of which he is the administrator.

Walsingham, in North Norfolk, has been a place of pilgrimage since medieval times. More than 3,000 members of his diocese journeyed there this year and were on hand to welcome Canon Moore at the end of his trip. Newgate was one of his many sponsors.

"I'm not really a keen cyclist but have good powers of endurance!" he said. "I was delighted to be sponsored by Newgate - an excellent company which has done fine work for priests for many years."
